On December 9, 2025, at 18:00 Beijing time, Renmin University of China's School of Mathematics and Durham University's Department of Mathematical Sciences held their first online collaborative meeting. Professor Fernando Galaz-García (Chair of the Internationalisation Committee), Professor Frank Coolen (Director of Research), and Professor Huaizhong Zhao (Faculty Representative) from Durham University participated in the meeting, along with Vice Dean Jiang Hao, Professor Xiang Tian, Associate Professor Li Chang, and International Affairs Secretary Kang Kai from Renmin University of China.

During the meeting, both sides presented their respective progress in discipline development, research areas, and talent training. As a leading mathematics center in the UK, Durham’s Department of Mathematical Sciences has established expertise in pure mathematics, statistics, applied mathematics, and interdisciplinary research. With highly aligned research interests, the two parties reached a preliminary agreement on promoting faculty research collaboration, organizing joint academic seminars, exploring a “3+1+1” integrated undergraduate-master’s program, and supporting student exchanges. The meeting laid a solid foundation for deepening international cooperation between the two mathematics departments, with both sides agreeing to hold the next online meeting in spring 2026.
